Special Notes:
I am a huge fan of comfort drinks. Coffee, hot chocolate and chai tea latte. These are things that I can just sip and relax. Sad part is, most of these drinks are doing nothing good for my body so I am determined to create and enjoy certain beverages that both taste amazing AND balance my hormones, support my skin, and prevent disease- all at the same time.
And this is one drink that does just that.
Turmeric is a true super herb. It is incredibly detoxifying and anti inflammatory. It supports your liver and kills cells that may be harming your body. This in turn can improve skin and digestion as well as prevent disease and sickness in the future. Turmeric has been shown to kill cancer cells, boost blood circulation and reduce the pain and fever associated with illness.
Coconut milk is full of healthy fats and contains lauric acid, antimicrobial lipids and capric acid, which have antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. Coconut milk and all coconut products are one of the most powerful foods for hormonal balance. These fats will also fuel your brain, give you energy, and take away sugar cravings.
I also love to top this baby with coconut whip cream!
Turmeric milk is a traditional Indian beverage that is commonly referred to as “Golden Milk” because of its healing properties. Very soothing, and will help your body detox throughout the night.
The absorption of turmeric is actually enhanced when combined with black pepper. This drink will take good care of your body. Enjoy!

Dr Jockers Comments:
You will love this anti-inflammatory turmeric recipe! Tastes great and is a powerful anti-inflammatory. I add a pinch of black pepper to this as the piperine in the black pepper enhances the absorption of the powerful curcuminoid antioxidants from the turmeric.
I buy my ground turmeric in bulk (typically 5 lbs at a time – Lol!) and keep it in a large glass container and also have a glass shaker bottle. It is always a good idea to have some extra turmeric around!!
I’ve always wondered if drinking turmeric teas, milks, etc, will stain your teeth. I take capsules twice a day and my fingers turn yellow just from taking the caps out of the bottle.
Good question Laura. I have turmeric all the time and haven’t noticed it staining my teeth at all.
I notice that skin and tartar on teeth can get yellowish, but washing with soap and brushing my teeth takes care of the yellow, transferring to my toothbrush instead… I’ve actually heard some people make up a natural toothpaste which calls for adding turmeric so it must not cause much staining.
Brush your teeth with baking soda
I just tried this. I didn’t have any coconut milk on hand so I used almond milk. i’ve been trying to incorporate more turmeric and ginger in my diet but I do not like the taste of ginger. However, with all these ingredients mixed together I could not tell ginger was in the mix and surprisingly, it tasted very good.
Yes it is awesome! Thanks for your input Randy!
The recipe and instructions don’t match. The instructions talk of honey…the recipe say stevia. Which is it? I prefer honey.
Hey Jo, you can use either – I prefer stevia
Hi Dr. Jockers, can you explain why you prefer stevia?
Yes, because it is 100x sweeter than sugar, it is natural and it has no effect on your blood sugar and research has shown that it has anti-oxidant and blood sugar stabilizing effects.
With that said, if you notice more symptoms and feel poorly after having stevia, it is possible to have a sensitivity. In these cases, I recommend monk fruit as the next best sweetening agent. https://drjockers.com/is-stevia-the-best-sweetener-on-the-market/
I actually prefer monkfruit sweetner over stevia, it doesn’t get as bitter with higher amounts used… My main brand is Lakanto and I prefer the golden… it is even good sprinkled on more tart fruit and ends up tasting like raw cane sugar, it is also granular like real sugar and like stevia has no spike in blood sugar
Yes monk fruit is another good one! https://drjockers.com/use-natural-sweeteners-for-your-sweet-tooth/
Turmeric as a healing nutrient is nothing new in our family. My mother-in-law would make us drink “dhoodh, ghee, haldi” – milk, clarified butter and turmeric – at the merest hint of a cough or cold. We would have to drink it at night and then go to sleep straight after. Just a few days of this is guaranteed to rid you of the worst of your cold and flu symptoms.
Post childbirth, mothers are given a more potent version of this same drink for at least a week. the turmeric helps in the internal healing process but because it generates a lot of heat in the body it needs to be taken with a cooling agent which is why ghee is added to the drink.
Also, during the winter months when fresh turmeric is in season, my grandmother would make sure to eat a lot of the stuff cos she said it helped keep her joints and bones strong.
Aside from that – turmeric is one of the four essential spices we use every day in our cooking…:).
I have been taking Golden Milk for a while now, but when I stopped drinking it, I found my body ached more and my legs as well. I was also getting a bit constipated as well while drinking this Golden Milk. Can anyone suggest to me what I am doing wrong, if anything, and if anyone has had to same problem as I have.
It dosn’t sound like you are doing anything wrong with the golden milk, but the rest of your diet and lifestyle may be a problem. I would suggest following a food elimination diet in the article below to help:

The link is for coconut cream not milk. I’m now the proud owner of 12 coconut creams. Lol.
Hey Liz, the only difference is that the milk typically contains a binder such as guar gum. I like to try and keep things as pure as possible when possible!
Consuming anything from cans can cause cancer.
Hey Otilia, Yes, it is best to consume fresh food when possible and from glass jars or cardboard cartons when possible!
