mimosa pudicaMimosa Pudica –  The Most Powerful Herb for Parasites?

Intestinal parasites are real and they can do major damage in the human body. I often find that individuals I work with who are struggling to get well have a lingering gut infection involving some type of parasite. Parasites are tricky to eradicate from the body as they have a long reproduction cycle and clever protection mechanisms. When parasites linger for long enough they cause a number of health complications. Luckily, a powerful herb (and its seeds) called Mimosa Pudica has a remarkable ability to eradicate these worms.

You will soon understand my interest in Mimosa Pudica, and also why you and your loved ones should consider adding this little powerhouse of protection to your wellness protocol, targeting the very root of all diseases – a toxic, parasite-infected gut.

These organisms are masters of subterfuge, sabotaging our health while hiding undetected. The symptoms of parasite infestation mimic our most common ailments and often, a lack of detection can lead to unneeded medical treatment. Oftentimes prescribed treatments are aimed at non-related conditions and end up leaving the parasites intact and able to dig in deeper.

What is Mimosa Pudica?

This “sensitive” plant, also called touch-me-not or shy plant, is a creeping, flowering bush-type herb of the pea/legume family. Originally native to South, Central and North America – it is now also a pantropical weed found in Asian countries including Bangladesh, Thailand, India, Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Japan, Taiwan, Sri Lanka and Guam (1).

This unusual plant is often grown for its curiosity value: the gentle, small leaves fold inward and droop when touched or shaken, defending themselves from harm, and re-open a few minutes later. Such rapid plant movement is seen in several plants and occurs quickly – usually under one second. The Venus Flytrap is a well-known example of rapid plant movement (2). Mimosa pudica, in particular, closes in darkness and reopens in the light.

There are theories about how Mimosa pudica “learns” its behavior since it, like all plants, lacks a brain and nervous system. However, neither hypothesis has gained scientific acceptance; and more research is needed to determine the cause of this interesting learning capability.

More History on Mimosa Pudica

The list of health challenges that have historically benefited from Mimosa pudica is interesting and varied. Indian Ayuverdic medicine, a holistic system of health over 3,000 years old, prescribes Mimosa for a variety of health remedies including dysentery, leprosy, jaundice, asthma, uterine problems, blood diseases, fatigue and more (3).

More modern day uses for this plant include :
  • Anti-venom: Water extracts of the roots of Mimosa pudica have shown to have significant anti-venom activity, most notably against the lethal venom of the monocled cobra. It appears to inhibit the myotoxicity and enzyme activity of cobra venom (4).
  • Wound healing
  • Helps relieve the pain of hemorrhoids and piles.
  • Anti-depressant, anti-anxiety
  • Soothes ulcers.
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Treats indigestion and diarrhea
  • Anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-viral properties
  • Anti-parasite
  • Lessens joint pain and arthritis symptoms.

While all parts of the plant are beneficial for a variety of health issues, for this article we are focusing on the seeds. Mimosa pudica seeds consist of a very gooey, sticky fat-soluble material that adheres to everything and helps to support the entire intestinal tract.

Chemical Constituents of Mimosa pudica

Phytochemical screening of the “touch-me-not” plant leaf extract showed the presence of flavonoids, glycosides, terpenoids, alkaloids, coumarins, saponins, tannins, phenols and quinines. The root extract showed the presence of fatty acids, glycosides, essential oils, tannins, amino acids, alkaloids, phytosterol, and flavonoids. Some of the important phytochemical compounds isolated from the Mimosa pudica plant are mimosine, jasmonic acid, betulinic acid, stigmasterol, Beta-sitosterol, 2-hyrdoxymethyl-chroman-4-one, dimethyl ammonium salt and mimopudine (5).

It possesses antibacterial, antivenom, antifertility, anticonvulsant, antidepressant, aphrodisiac, and various other pharmacological activities. The herb has been used traditionally for ages, in the treatment of urogenital disorders, piles, dysentery, sinus, and also applied on wounds (6).

[NOTE: Contraindication: Because of its proven anti-fertility properties, Mimosa Pudica should never be consumed by a woman trying to become pregnant. Also, pregnant women should not consume Mimosa pudica.]

Mimosa Pudica and Gut Health

I wrote above that our interest in Mimosa pudica was primarily in its effectiveness as a potent natural anti-parasite treatment. There are several proven, herbal and holistic remedies for parasite infestation and overall gut health. Mimosa pudica seeds, in particular, seem to stand-out in this regard.

Intestinal parasites are abnormal and unwanted inhabitants of the gastrointestinal tract that have proven to cause an alarming array of health problems, some of them very serious, to their host. Parasites devour nutrients from the foods we eat, contributing to chronic malnourishment. They can also eat holes in the intestinal wall, leading to leaky gut which introduces an array of serious health challenges. One of the major complications with leaky gut is autoimmunity and conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and inflammatory skin conditions. Humans can play host to more than a hundred different types of parasites.

If you have been making all of the right choices to get healthy and you seem to be dealing with chronic digestive issues or just can’t figure out why you feel unwell, there is the potential for parasite infection. Running a stool analysis like a GI MAP is a quick and powerful way to determine if you are dealing with a parasite.

Parasitic Characteristics

Parasites can range from microscopic amoeba to 10-foot-long tapeworms. These parasites and their eggs can enter the circulation and travel to various organs such as the liver where they can contribute to abscesses and cirrhosis (78).  They can also migrate to the lungs causing pneumonia; and into the joints, brain, muscles, esophagus, and skin where they cause elevated inflammation (9).

Chronic parasitic infections are linked with intestinal permeability and leaky gut syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, irregular bowel movements, malabsorption, gastritis, acid reflux, skin disorders, joint pain, seasonal and food allergies and decreased immunity (10). Using something like mimosa pudica can help to bind and pull-out parasites before these issues take place or to help relieve them.

Symptoms of Parasites in Humans

Many people don’t associate chronic or “normal” health problems with parasites. But the fact is, the presence of parasites should be considered if one or more of these symptoms persist over time:

  1. Constipation or diarrhea
  2. Gas or bloating
  3. Back, joint and/or muscles aches and pain
  4. Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  5. Allergies
  6. Increased appetite and often excess weight
  7. Itchy ears, nose or anus
  8. Nervousness or irritability
  9. Chronic fatigue, lethargy or apathy
  10. Various skin problems
  11. Anemia
  12. Forgetfulness and mental fog
  13. Vision problems
  14. Sleep difficulties

How Do We Get Parasites?

Parasites are everywhere. Typically, they are associated with third-world countries, but those of us who live in the United States are not immune. We get them from contaminated food and water, improperly cooked meat, and unclean fruits and vegetables. Restaurant salad bars can be breeding grounds for parasites as well. You can even get them by walking barefoot as they are transmitted through the soil. They can also be sexually transmitted or contracted through contaminated blood and feces (11).

Tiny parasitic eggs can be transmitted from person to person through improper hygiene practices such as neglecting to wash your hands after using the restroom. These eggs can be on any surface – door handles, tables, money and much more.

In most cases, parasites – like other disease-causing organisms such as viruses and bacteria – enter our bodies because of a weakened immune system. Unnecessary use of antibiotics, a poorly established gut flora, poor diet, and chronic stress can all predispose use to infection.

If you find yourself subjected to several of these risk factors, then you may consider using mimosa pudica on a regular basis as a defensive measure.

Types of Parasites

There are three main classes of parasites that can cause disease in humans: protozoa, helminths, and ectoparasites.

Protozoa are microscopic, one-celled organisms that can be free-living or parasitic in nature. They can reproduce in humans, which contributes to their survival and also permits serious infections to develop from just a single organism.

Helminths are large, multicellular organisms that can be seen with the naked eye in their adult stage. Like protozoa, helminths can be either free-living or parasitic in nature. In their adult form, helminths cannot multiply in humans. There are three main groups of helminths; they typically are unable to multiply in the human gut:

  • Flatworms (platyhelminths) – these include the trematodes (flukes) and cestodes (tapeworms).
  • Thorny-headed worms (acanthocephalans) – the adult forms reside in the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Roundworms (nematodes) – these worms can live in the gastrointestinal tract, blood, lymphatic system or subcutaneous tissues.

Ectoparasites can broadly include blood-sucking arthropods such as mosquitoes. However, this term is generally used to refer to organisms such as ticks, fleas, lice, and mites that attach or burrow into the skin and remain there for relatively long periods of time (e.g., weeks to months).

Arthropods cause diseases in their own right, but are even more important as vectors, or transmitters, of many different pathogens that, in turn, result in tremendous mortality from the diseases they cause. Case in point – malaria, transmitted by mosquitos – causes massive loss of life worldwide (12).

The Heart-Parasite Connection

Lest we think that ignoring the diagnosis and treatment of parasites is of no great consequence, consider that worms in humans have been clinically related to serious heart diseases as well as to cancer, particularly bladder cancer. Chagas’ disease is one infection in particular caused by a protozoan parasite called Trypanosoma cruzi.

Due to increased travel, parasitic infestation formerly seen primarily in developing tropical countries is now diagnosed worldwide. Some parasites may directly or indirectly affect the heart, with infections manifested as myocarditis, pericarditis, pancarditis, or pulmonary hypertension. As a consequence, medical clinicians now routinely consider testing for parasites in the diagnosis of myocardial and pericardial diseases anywhere around the world (13).

Mimosa Pudica for Parasites

The evidence is building to support the use of Mimosa Pudica to destroy parasites. This evidence is reaffirmed clinically, as those who use it (even without previous symptoms of parasite infection) begin to see worms in their stool.

Cellcore Biosciences developed Para 1 as a tool for immune and GI system support against parasites. It is especially helpful for reducing the levels of helminths and nematodes, the larger sized worms. As described earlier in this article, the sticky substance extracted from Mimosa pudica seeds is a powerful agent for extracting parasites and pathogens in the intestinal tract. There are no side effects and no adverse reactions have taken place with dosages as high as 20 capsules daily.

Our recommended dosage is 2 caps – 2x daily. For sensitive individuals, start with 1 cap daily for a week to let the body adjust; slowly add 1 cap per week until you reach the desired dosage. As any parasites slowly die off and begin exiting the body, it is possible to feel a little under the weather, simply as a part of the detoxification, healing process. This is normal and to be expected. Using something like BioToxin Binder or Activated Charcoal can help bind and reduce any symptoms associated with a die-off.

  1. I am hoping to ‘someday’ be pregnant again. I suspect that among other health issues, I probably have parasites. I am looking to eliminate them and improve my health. I see, though, that this is not recommended for pregnant women, nursing women or those trying to become pregnant. What I’m wondering is –
-Is mimosa pudica seed safe for a woman of childbearing age, who is hoping to someday (like 6 months from now or 1 year from now) to become pregnant? Are the anti-fertility effects permanent? Or is it just while taking the seeds?
-If mimosa pudica seed is just definitely not recommended for someone who is hoping to ever be pregnant someday, then what is a safe natural effective product/herb that I could take to eliminate parasites, without the antifertility effects?
    Thanks so much!

    1. They are not permanent effects, but I wouldn’t take this during the process of trying to get pregnant. Always best to eliminate parasites before hand and then she will be much more fertile.

  2. I have been taking four pills a day of para 1 for two and a half months. I noticed within three weeks of starting that I had very noticeable puffiness / swelling in my face/neck and bloated stomach. Some shortness of breath. Eventually I cut out pumpkin seeds and nuts which seemed to lessen the puffiness and bloating slightly. My shortness of breath is better now. Is it possible as I am eliminating the parasites that I have more food allergies or reactions? For the past 3 weeks I have been following the Candida diet 90% of the time. My question is should I up my dose or stop taking it to see if the puffiness goes away completely. Thank you.

  3. Dr. Jockers;
I have had skin itch in my armpits, nose and body for years now. I thought it was anxiety. I also have grinding teeth so bad I have started to message my jaw. Would these be symptoms of parasites? I would like to get my stool tested and I was wondering how much a test like that costs? I live in Canada so I have to take into consideration the exchange currency. And also how much monthly it would cost for me to start the Mimosa Pudica. Thank you.

  4. Is it really necessary to have the stool testing done? I would like to start on the Para1. I have autoimmune. Terrible rash episodes on my chest neck, feels like somethings crawling under my skin, along with many other symptoms that you mentioned in your feed. Im thinking its obvious that I have parasites. Ive noticed that since starting keto and fasting, Im doing better but I want to rid myself of these. Thank you so much for such valuable information.

    1. Hey Diane, sorry to hear this!! It isn’t necessary to get the stool testing done but it will help you identify what is going on and using the stool test periodically can help measure results.

      1. Thank you for your reply. I am starting to use the Para1. Would it be advisable to use Coconut charcoal to help with die off symptoms? If so, when should it be taken?
        Thank you!!

        1. Yes that can help! You need to take charcoal between meals and also Mimosa Pudica between meals. First thing in the AM and before bed are good times for Mimosa Pudica and then between meals for charcoal.

          1. I am 3 weeks in to the Para1 cleanse and taking 4 caps 2x a day at this point. Have not noticed any parasites. Do I keep increasing each week til something shows? Do you need to “see” something? I am going on vacation in 11 days, I was hoping to be done with the cleanse.
            Thank you!

  5. i recently did gi map w/ drs data and no parasites were sited but tested positive for Klebsiella pneumoniae (3+) and dysbiosis. i have worked hard w/ restrictive diets and probiotics for a long tm but don’t feel like i’m getting anywhere. extreme bloating and sluggish bowels. Would mumosa pudica be an effective treatment for kleb and dysbiosis?
Plus i was wondering if the gi map is foolproof in testing for parasites?

  6. Dr. Jockers,
It is imperative that I use phase 1 or another binder or can I just use the Mimosa Pudica capsules.
    Thanks,
    Monieka

      1. Hello Dr. Jockers,
How can that still be as effective as using the whole plant? I am researching this plant because I’m tired of jumping into something to find out later it wasn’t effective for some reason or another.
I looked it up in a few places and the reading on it sounds great but Wiki info has me wondering.

If you are only using the seed in your product then that is the mucilage which is the sticky stuff made up of acid and sugar and are the building blocks of the plant.
        From Wiki……………………
Mimosa pudica’s seeds produce mucilage made up of D-glucuronic acid and D-xylose.
        Also from Wiki……………..
The extracts of Mimosa pudica immobilize the filariform larvae of Strongyloides stercoralis in less than one hour.[33]
I want the extracts! Right, look at what is says here, in less than one hour those larvae start dying.
So next I looked up the extracts and found this……………
        https://www.researchgate.net/publication/326041257_Analysis_of_Phytochemical_Constituents_and_Anthelmintic_Activity_of_Leaf_Extracts_of_Mimosa_pudica_L

What it’s saying is that , “Knowledge of the phytochemical constituents present in M.pudica leaf will be very useful for the maximum exploitation of this plant in medicine. It has been reported that phytochemicals present in plants are the vital sources of antiviral, anti tumor and antimicrobial agents, so they are used as constituents in allopathic medicine [13] and also in other systems of medicine.” That’s only a part of it but it goes on to reveal that the plant leaves are quite effective in killing the worms.
Please understand that I am only seeking knowledge to find the right product before I spend 6 months on this or any road, I want it to be the right one. I found all your information very helpful and informative and am in no way trying to discredit your product. I really hope you will respond with some information on the seed and why it is used. I don’t see anything supporting it.

        Thank you,
        H

          1. Can you just eat the flowers? I used to eat them all the time when I was a child. So I know they won’t hurt you. My horses eat the flowers, bark and leaves. So do the deer that come into my yard. Lol

  7. Hi Dr. Jockers. I took a bottle of mimosa pudica for a month in November, but after a hiatus re-commenced. Fighting Lyme’s with several co-infections (heavy metals- you know the drill) and using this as part of my protocol. I’m using 3 capsules 2x/day for 2 wks now, but still feel the parasites(worms I’m guessing- and feels like a long one). I’ve heard your mother needed 5 caps 2x/day. Should I wait another week or increase to 4, then 5? I don’t herx, so I’m assuming it’s okay?

    1. Do these products kill off the good bacteria in the gut, please?
Does this seed kill protozoa? If so, how long should it be taken for?
      How big are the pills?
What is the dosage for children (6yo)? Thank you!

      1. Yes these will help to kill protozoa and can have a positive impact on the gut bacteria. I don’t use this for children under 10. Instead, we use the Para 3 product for them which is in a liquid dropper.

      2. Hi Dr. Jockers, I purchased the full moon kit. Do I start with a beginner dose this full moon and level up to intermediate dosing next full moon? Or shoud I continue to take mimosa pudica and the other supplements, gradually increasing dosage throught the entire month?

        Thank you,

      3. I have been taking the para 1 and para 2 for several months and have been passing what appear to be ropeworms. My healthcare provider says this is part of my intestinal lining but they certainly look like a parasite. What is your opinion?

    2. Please be aware that Mimosa Seed Extract powder does not work the same way as ground raw seed powder. It does not gel up and does not have the same benefits of the raw seed powder. Test your capsules by breaking it into a small amount of water. Light Abound…

      1. Oh no….can you write me and recommend the right ones? I maybe not see it here. I live in Denmark so hard to get a hold of products without high taxes as well
        My email is maja@hanno.dk

  8. Dear Dr Jockers,

Me and my 10 year old daughter have been diagnosed with Dientamoeba Fragilis almost two years ago. We have taken three rounds of antibiotics but always test positive afterwards. We are now looking to start Humatin, but thinking about buying mimosa pudica too. What is your experience with it on DF ?

  9. Hi Dr Jockers
Just enjoyed the Fasting Transformation Summit – thanks for all that! I live in India and can only get the whole seed of Mimosa Pudica. I can grind it into a powder at home but is it safe to take stirred into water or a smoothie? I saw Jay Davidson’s video where mixing the loose powder in liquid made it very gelatinous. Would it be okay to take it like that or must it be in a capsule?

    1. Hello Clare, I am glad you enjoyed the summit and so good to have you enjoying the info from India! What a beautiful country with much history about fasting as well! Yes, it is fine to take it this way but you will want to drink it quickly.

    2. Hello Clare…I live in Bangalore, India and glad to find your post here…as I am unable to find capsules…can you please describe how much of the powder you took …much appreciates..

  10. Hello Dr Jockers
After watching all the guests on your fasting summit we were drawn to the interview with Dr Jay. We have been doing a 16-8 fasting for 3 weeks. We don’t have any illnesses to speak of but do feel we would benefit from doing a parasite cleans . How long would you suggest we take Mimosa Pudica for?

    With Much Gratitude, Michael

    1. Yes I would recommend doing 6 weeks on the Mimosa Pudica. Begin with 2 caps in the AM upon rising and 2 caps before bed. If you feel fine with that, bump it up to 4 caps in the AM upon rising and 4 caps before bed. Blessings!

      1. Hi Dr. Jockers with this dose above, do I need to be taking charcoal of some type? I took MP
for a month without a binder and many worms came out over that time. I am starting another cycle and want to make sure I am doing it properly. I restarted GI Repair also. Happy Easter Blessings-Thank you, Cindy

  11. Thank you my friend. May you continue to inspire those who are looking for direction.

With Deep Gratitude and Appreciation, Michael

  12. Thank you Dr Jockers for your fasting summit and all of the valuable information that you give. I am putting ascensional oils, Black pepper, cinnamon bark, And wild Orange, In hot water in the morning instead of coffee. I am also putting Lemon grass and clover oil in a capsule and taking it during my fasting time. Are these things ruining my fasting time? My feeding time is from 2 to 8:00 p.m. I am getting ready to start the Mamosa pudica and wondered if the ascensional oils could Stop the parasite kill off. Thank you so much for your help and information to give us the better quality of life and health. Best Regards, Terri in Oregon

    1. From what I’ve read and heard, essential oils are not all safe to be used internally. Please do your research or ask your health professional who is trained in essential oils.

  13. The challenge that was given out with Mimosa Pudica Seed – Take 1 cap every half hour on a day you are fasting. Will this cleanse everything out or does it need to be repeated? Will you have more serious reactions doing it this way?
Thanks for your help. I really enjoyed The Fasting Summit.
    Davena.

  14. Dear Dr Jockers,

Can Mimosa pudica seeds be takin in conjunction with metformin (500gr x 3 for PCOS) and tranaxemic acid?

    Thank you

  15. Dear Dr Jockers, thanks for the info on mimosa pudica. I believe I have microscopic parasites but the article said this is best for worms. What would you recommend for what I have, please? Thanks.

  16. I have been diagnosed with FSGN – focal segmental glomeruli nephritis and I have been prescribed Telmisartan, Spironolactone and Crestor. I also take Eltroxin for my thyroid. I have also been struggling with pain in both of my feet and the doctors have not been able to find anything wrong with them. I would like to try the mimosa pudia but not sure if it will affect the other meds that I am on.

  17. I plan to take mimosa pudica for parasites. Does it also rid the body of yeast (candida) and toxins at the same time?
What is the best most effective detox to take along with the mp for overall drainage and detox of the die off from the colon, liver, bile duct, kidney, lymphatic and glymphatic systems? It seems overwhelming to have to take a separate detox for each and every one.

Thank you for he important work you are doing.

  18. Hi Dr.,

I just finished my SIBO herbal treatment of berberine complex and still have gas and bloating. I suspect I have parasites. I do entric coated peppermint oil 30 mins before breakast and dinner and 1 500mg ginger capsule after breakfast and dinner. When should I add the Mimosa Pudica and activated charcoal timing wise. Will the ginger and peppermint interfere with Mimosa Pudica?

    Thanks!
    Meera.

    1. Hi Meera, Taking activated charcoal with meals can reduce gas and bloating, especially if you eat something that you are sensitive or allergic to. It can however bind to some of the nutrients taken with a meal. Para 1 is best taken at night on an empty stomach and away from the other supplements you are taking around meal times. Blessings!

      1. Thank you so much doc!!! I can’t wait for my mimosa pudica to arrive tomorrow.
Will the Mimosa Pudica interfere with the peppermint oil or ginger ? I’ll start activated charcoal with meals.

        Thank you so much!

        1. Hi Meera, These herbs work by reducing inflammation and serving as natural antibacterial agents. Mimosa Pudica cleans the digestive tract by pulling out removing unwanted elements attached to the intestinal walls allowing it to pull and flush out parasites. Feel free to keep using peppermint and ginger oil but make sure you are taking the Para 1 on an empty stomach for effective results. Here is an additional article that may be helpful: https://drjockers.com/7-reasons-to-use-carminative-herbs/. Blessings!

          1. Dear doc.,

Thank you so much. Within a day of para1 I started seeing 1 feet long sticky things in my stool. They don’t break but i don’t see a body inside either. Is this bio-film from my SIBO or some kind of worm? How long should I be on Para1? . I am only taking 1 per day empty stomach in the morning. Thank you for your advice and blessings.

            Meera

          2. Hey Meera, It is hard to tell for sure, but whether it is mucoid plaque, biofilm or worms it is a good thing that it is coming out. You can do an initial 3-6 months on Para 1 to clear things out and then do a 1 month run on it every 6 months.

  19. Dear Dr. Jockers
I just read your articles on parasites and the para1. Im afraid i have these in my body.
Can you advise how to start with the cleansing? Like how will i do the fasting then when do i take the mimosa pudica seeds and how long and how much? I suffer from autoimmune and a grind my teeth daily and i am losing weight without trying despite having a healthy diet… less sugar more veggies and fruits. Thanks. I from the Philippines

    1. Hi Fides, Begin with 2 caps in the AM upon rising and 2 caps before bed. If you feel fine with that, bump it up to 4 caps in the AM upon rising and 4 caps before bed. Blessings!

  20. Hello doctor

I have been feeling unwell, light headed and fatigued for many months , I have had so many blood and urine tests and MRI s etc but every time I’m told there’s nothing wrong with me! I feel that my life has been taken away from me, I’m 74 and normally extremely active and fit. I have a very healthy diet almost 100% organic. I’ve had to give in and take Citalopram……can I take your mimosa pudica seed supplement whilst taking Citalopram?

  21. Hello,

I have been sick for 7 years with 20 plus symptoms…was correctly diagnosed February 2018 with Mold Toxicity. I was detoxing the mold and treating the co infections and symptoms and by July only had a tiny bit left of 1 of the 4 molds that I was dealing with. Then continued having MCAS and CIRS. In November I was getting UBI ozone IV’s (10 weeks) feeling alot better with the exception of some really intense abdominal pain and bloating. I thought it was the die off from the IV’s. Well thankfully I watched the Mold Summit on line in January and learned so much more! I heard about the parasites before and it was talked about again in the summit. At the time I thought wow, this might be why I’m feeling so sick but in a different way. Soooooo
I do have parasites and noticed just after taking mimosa pudica back in January. It was clear to see one that was 2 1/2 inches long. I continued to take the mimosa pucida for 1 month. As I read more about parasites I realize that I have to get better by continuing I started taking it again recently about 2 weeks ago and I continue to see it’s getting out of my system. How long do you take it? I thought I read 6 mos. but then I thought maybe it was 6 weeks.
Thank you in advance and blessing to you helping me and others!!!

  22. Hello Dr J,
I live in Germany. Can I buy just buy the seeds from a garden store and use them, + if so, do I grind them and what would be the dosage.

    1. Hey Bill, Seeds from a store are not of the highest quality. The producer of Para 1 undergoes multiple rounds of testing to ensure that there are no heavy metals, pesticides or contaminants. Seeds purchased elsewhere have no quality guarantee and can contain pesticide and herbicide residue. Para 1 is also ground into a very fine powder and capsulized. A home grinder cannot produce the same effect and humidity or moisture in the air can cause the powder to become gelatinous and sticky. Blessings!

  23. Thanks Dr J. Probably I can buy heritage mimosa pudika seeds via Demeter in Germany + I have a powerful grinder from Switzerland that powders almost everything + I’d grind them just before using them anyway, but how much of the powder (do I take half a tsp) or add to a green smoothie per day?

    1. Hey Bill, That is great! The seeds can become very gelatinous and so adding the seeds to a smoothie may change the consistency. The recommended dosage is 900mg which would be approximately 1/8th of a tsp but will depend on purity and how fine the seed is ground. I am not able to recommend an equivalent serving size. I hope this helps!

  24. Hi Dr. Jockers, I am not sure I have a parasite but have been experiencing a lot of bloating after meals and have followed an AIP protocol for quite some time with not much change. I’m wondering if i have a parasite but have not tested. I was just wondering if i try the Para1 if there are any side effects? And would a one month supply be enough? If i notice improvement do i just continue with it?

    Thanks for your help!

    1. Hey Joe,

Just like with any supplement, some people may not tolerate the Para 1 well, but it is rare. It is one of the most well-tolerated anti-microbials I have used with clients. I would recommend doing a 1-2 month trial on it beginning with 2 caps – 2x daily and working up to 4 caps – 2x daily away from meals. The main side effect is constipation, so be sure to stay hydrated and consider using the Oxy Powder as well to keep the bowels moving well. https://store.drjockers.com/products/oxy-powder

  25. Hi Dr. Jockers, I have vitiligo and Iwas wondering if this cleanse would cure vitiligo? Also, my daughter has minor autism. She is now 7 years old. Will this cure her? I have heard that cleaning the guts from parasites helps cure autism, but is that really true/

    1. Hi Ann, I am sorry to hear about this. I would recommend a healing diet to start. This article will help: https://drjockers.com/heal-autoimmune-disease/ Although research supports that improvements to the gut can improve symptoms of autism there is no evidence to support that a cleanse will cure autism. A functional health practitioner can create a customized plan and guide you and your daughter in your healing journeys. Read this article for more information: https://drjockers.com/functional-nutrition-tips-to-find-a-great-health-coach/

    2. Dear Ann, I just came across your post and was moved to offer this. Perhaps you might benefit from reading Kerri Rivera’s book on “Healing Autism” with a form of oxygen therapy known as MMS, if you have not already. The book includes stories from several families who have recovered children with autism through parasite detoxification using MMS. If you have difficulty finding the actual book, there is a PDF available for downloading on the internet. You are very welcome to write to me should you wish to. With warmest wishes, Lisa

  26. Is there any decent or peer-reviewed research on Mimosa Pudica SEED and its effect on worms/parasites? I can’t seem to find any at all, and most of the research is on the whole plant, leaves, stem, tincture, etc. I see a similar question previously, but not a reply, other than that you have had good success with the seed. I am on the Para 1/Para 2/Binder protocol and, in the very least, am having no ill effects. Your response to the previous similar question would appear to indicate that there is not much research yet on the seed itself? Do you know why Cell Core decided to use the seed as opposed to tincture, etc.? I am very interested in learning more about Mimosa Pudica seed and, specifically, rope “worm” but seem to have quickly exhausted the limited sites on the internet.

    1. Hey Ann, I understand how the lack of research can create skepticism about the efficacy of the product. The founder of CellCore BioSciences has used Mimosa Pudica seed in his clinic for the last 7 years to help hundreds of people improve gut health. CellCore leaders are currently working with experts in Ayurvedica Sciences in India to further research and understand Mimosa Pudica seed. What you will notice about Para 1 is that it will become instantly gelatinous if you open the contents of a capsule into water. This capability allows it to serve as a gut scraper when ingested which is unique to the seed and no other part of the Mimosa Pudica plant. This property is what provides the amazing results people are experiencing. As we learn about more research we will absolutely share the information with all of you! Blessings!

  27. Hello Dr. Jockers!
Thank you so much for the thorough explanations and valuable information. I have some lingering Lyme/inflammation symptoms which were greatly reduced when I used mimosa (and a worm came out after 2 weeks). My 9 year old daughter has some inflammatory symptoms (food intolerances, anxiety, joint pain) and some general candida symptoms, and I would like to de-parasite her as well, but the mimosa package says ‘for adults’ and Dr. Jay’s site also only talks about treating adults. Could there be any harm in treating my daughter with a low dose for a month to help clear out any parasites? Thank you and keep up the amazing work!

    1. Hey Audie, I am so glad to hear that you had great success with Mimosa Pudica! When working with children I would recommend that you work with a functional health practitioner to get to the root cause of her symptoms and customize a specific plan! We don’t have a general recommendation for herbal use and supplementation for children.

  28. Dr. J. This is my second time to try to take Mimosa Pudica. Unfortunately the last time I took it, I became insanely bloated, couldn’t sleep and began having TMJ, vibration in my left food and felt quite poorly. I tried to back down to one capsule every other day but it was still impossible for me to take. (Perhaps it is merely because it caused constipation?) As a note, I couldn’t handle taking any binders because they backed me up even more. I eat a nearly 100% organic, balanced whole foods diet. I’ve been gaining weight steadily for several years, and most alarming is the increased facial swelling and especially dramatic swelling of my eyes. This, in concert with feeling pregnant all the time, seems odd, having previously had a very athletic build. It all started many years ago following a trip to China, but I’ve never been diagnosed as having parasites, to be clear. Tests always come up normal. That said, I’m fairly certain that my first raw garlic consumption several years ago produced a sizable roundworm. To my question (finally!)….I restarted the Mimosa today at 1/2 capsule. Is there ANYTHING I can do to stop the bloat and constipation issues so that I can continue to take Mimosa until I’m back to normal? (By the way, I can’t take magnesium because it makes me have ATP issues and I become an emotional wreck on all forms of mag. Go figure!) Many blessings to you for all your amazing work and thanks in advance for any peals of wisdom you can offer!!!

  29. Will do! Based upon my note, do you think Mimosa is a good fit for me? Could parasites be causing my various issues in spite of my negative tests? Thanks again!!!

    1. No I don’t think it is the best fit for you at this time since you are getting backed up every time you take it. There are other herbal products you can use that may work better for you.

  30. Hi Dr. Jockers,
I have had a similar response to the Mimosa Pudica as ADK, the commenter above, where I have become very bloated with bouts of constipation. I have been on Mimosa for about two months. Someone recommended I take fermented cabbage juice along with the Mimosa protocol, so I am not sure which is the cause for the bloating. Should I stop taking the Mimosa and try the GI Clear and Mega IgG that you recommended ADK above?

      1. Thanks. I ordered both supplements. About how long should I expect to take them? Also I’m wondering if there are reviews or testimonials of people having success with these products.

  31. Hi Dr Jockers!

First of all: thank you for you work! I have read/listened to much of it and found it extremely helpful!

I took a high dose (3 bottles in a month) of mimosa pudica, which finally kicked the parasites that had been causing issues for years. We want to try to have another baby, but I am wondering if we need to wait a couple of months. In other words, what “anti fertility” properties does mimosa pufica have? If it greatly effects hormone balance, it could negatively effect the follicular development of any eggs that had begun to be prepared for ovulation.

Thank you so much! God bless you and your very good work!
    Erin

    1. That is great to hear Erin! I would not use Mimosa Pudica if you are trying to get pregnant. It does have an anti-fertility impact on the body. If you are off of it for a month or so, you will become more fertile. Blessings!

    1. We don’t have evidence of this, however, it would be good to cycle in some probiotics and do something like 2 weeks on Mimosa Pudica and 2 weeks on probiotics.

  32. Hiya,

I have mimosa pudica seed powder and wonder how you take it loose? I’ve read on a different site that oil or honey is recommended and not water. Would celery juice be ok ?
Also, I would be taking Diatomaceous Earth as the binder later on in the day. How much of that would I need as effective binder?
    Many thanks 🙂

    1. Yes because it is so gelatinous, you really take it very well with water. Best to mix in olive oil or honey. Yes you can use a serving or 2 of Diatomaceous Earth as a good binder. Blessings!

  33. Hi Dr. Jockers,

I watched your fasting webinar and earned about the Mimosa Pudica. I ordered that as well as some detox support. I have thought that I had a parasite for years. I have found that when I do coffee enemas, they come out. However, it seems like I never really get to the mother load. I have done some research and thought it may be “rope” worms; however, some people say that they do not exist. I have done 3 GI stool tests and all come back negative for parasites, which I never understood. I am planning to do the 1 pill/ every 30 minutes as a start to aid in getting these parasites out. After, I plan to start with 2 pills 2x a day and gradually increase as needed. How long should I follow a protocol like that? Will my stool come out clean once the parasites are expelled? Is the damage irreversible? I feel like I have had these for decades. I have had constipation issues since I am a teenager, and I will be 50 this year. I have many food sensitives, but have never been able to truly pinpoint as I sometimes react to foods and sometimes I am okay. Lastly, do you take out of state clients? I feel like I have tried so many avenues of health and just never seemed to get to the root of the problem. I have gotten better, but never made it to the finish line. Sorry, I know there are many questions. Just wondering..have you heard of rope worms or are they just another name for a parasite.

  34. Hi Dr. Jockers,

My son has a serious autoimmune disease and needs the gut regimes you list here for Mimosa Pudica and the charcoal– however he also has salicylate intolerance.

Are you aware if these products you list have salicylates (, and if so — how your protocol would change for that. I tried the Mimosa Pudica brand you list above and he appears to be having a salicylate reaction. Thank you in advance!!!

  35. Mimosa pudica is miraculous! Some long worms are getting out of my kids after the first day! I could not believe my eyes when I found them.

  36. My wife & I want to do a parasite cleanse but when I did some research online regarding Mimosa Pudica there was one comment by someone who had used MP & developed Morphea afterwards! She claimed that it was the result/reaction from her having been taking collagen? She commented that she’d been taking collagen for several years with no such reaction, but after starting using MP that within a couple of weeks she experienced severe rashes & breaking out on her skin. She was diagnosed with Morphea & was prescribed medications & topicals that have somewhat relieved the symptoms but was told that she would probably have to live with the ailment for the rest of her life!!!!!
I would just like to know if this is a possible reaction from this circumstance or if it’s possibly just an isolated individual situation?
    Thank You

    1. Hey Stan,

We have been using this product with thousands of customers and clients for 2 years now and have never come across that. I am sure it is possible for someone to have a bad reaction and for the morphea to occur, but I would say it is extremely rare. We do offer your money back if you have a bad reaction if that makes you feel any better. Blessings to you!

  37. Dr. Jockers, is Mimosa Pudica effective for parasites living outside the intestinal tract as well?
I would like to clarify this before starting the treatment. Thank you!

      1. Hi Dr Jockers

I believe I may have multiple parasites (internal & external) including some kind of biting mites.

The mites bite while crawling in and out of my pubic areas including my urethra, anus, etc.

There is a large amount of very tiny round black seed like materials and other very small brown flat seed like materials in my stool.

There may be internal worms but I don’t see them in my stools.

I’ve been trying various herbal oral and topical protocols for about 6 months that have mostly diminished the bugs biting all over the exterior body, but no luck completely eliminating them internally so far.

Which product do you think would be appropriate to use for my situation?

      2. Hi Dr. Jockers,

Thank you for your candor and investment on this pervasive problem. It’s been a brutal time so I’m hoping for feedback on these questions, and thank you again:

        1. Someone mentioned Morphea as a rare side effect. Does mimosa pudica have any risks for folks with EDS/autoimmune/connective tissue vulnerabilities? What are the side effects you’ve seen, to be informed?

        2. Is mimosa pudica psychoactive or psychedelic at all?

        3. I don’t see Formula 1 anywhere for parasites beyond the intestines. Do you have any recommendations in that regard?

        4. How does Para 1 compare to or work in conjunction with Albendezole for an acute infection? Do you say to try one first?

  38. Hi
    Can you support please
I have bought mimosa pudica whole plant powder in capsule form. i want to take 6 capsules Per day One capsule is 500mg so it is 3000 mg Per day, and i bought bottles So that the amount is that i Can take a cure that Will last Two years. Is it okay to do the cure for two years and still that is not to much? I am using it for anxiety and gut health please let me now if it is not to Long i hope it is not 🙂 i need the support for my body.

    1. Hello Ming, If you have been using this for a while, I would recommend taking some periodic breaks such as doing 2 weeks on (around the full moon) and 2 weeks off and cycling it as long as it is helping you feel good!

  39. How important comments are to complete information about it, in the case of Mimosa Pudica. Dr. Jockers, would you know if bladder with a thick inner wall and prostate cyst could have been caused by parasites? Thank you for this miracle plant, and your job in help many people. I like a lot herbal medicines. What’s difficult to know, is the dosage of any herb to properly treat an ailment.

  40. Hello,
I am taking Para1 and Para2 with the Biotoxin Binder for disbyosis. I cannot swallowed pills. Would it be ok to open these pills into apple sauce? Or what would you recommend?

  41. Dr. Jockers,
I am very eager to take the mimosa pudica seed, however, I have had constipation issues for the past year and saw that one of the side effects of taking it is constipation.
My constipation improves, I am currently drinking lots of water and liquids, eat organic fruits and vegetables, exercise regularly and am taking 2 very good probiotics, one for methane gas production (L. reuteri) and spores, but it’s not consistent enough.
Do you have other suggestions for me, please?
    Thank you!

  42. Hi. My chiropractor recommended this supplement, but I am still breastfeeding a 2 year old, not very much. I see the risk in pregnancy but I am not going to have any more babies. Is there a risk to my 2 year old? Does it transfer to breastmilk?

      1. Hi Dr. Jockers, I’d love your insight on cleansing from parasites while breastfeeding. I have a newborn! I did two parasite cleanses 2 years ago and LOVE mimosa Pudica, but haven’t been able to while pregnant and now an infant. I really feel like I need to. What would you recommend since I’ll probably be breastfeeding for at least 2 years?

        1. Hello Krystal, yes we recommend waiting until your baby is at least 1 year old and is weaning off of breast feeding before beginning a parasite cleanse.

  43. hi Dr. Jockers,
Hope all is well with you. i wanted to ask your advice, My 12 yr old daughter and I were diagnosed with Cyclospora, A parasite. After a trip to the ocean last year. I have been working with a GI Doctor, and Naturopath Doctor for a while now. I have now taking Mimosa Pudica Seed for about a month now at 2 caps-2x daily, and I feel as though my symptoms are increasing. As if I am aggravating what is in my stomach, I have increased symptoms such as Stomach Cramping , loose stools, Nausea, & Etc. I was wondering if I should increase the dose or stay the path? And for how long? Have you treated this type of parasite before? I am waiting to attempt this treatment with my daughter until I know the outcome of mine. She is taking other herbal treatments in the meantime. thank you for any extra advice you can give on our road to recovery.
    Sincerely, -Nikki

  44. Hello, I have some Ivermectin I can take for parasites. Is Mimosa Pudica Seed better for parasites or should I stick with the Ivermectin? I wonder – if someone passes a worm, does that always mean there are lots more, or can someone have one troubling worm?! Thank you.

  45. Hi Dr. Jockers,

My family has been struggling with a pinworm fiasco for a year and a half. I feel like it came from a daycare since it started about a month after kids were enrolled. I’ve done the crazy cleaning…bedding daily…washing hands so frequently my hands are cracked and bleeding…nail brush every time we wash our hands. Problem is we haven’t had more than a single day of relief/no symptoms even after all the over the counter meds, prescription meds, DE, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is after using diatomaceous earth on and off for months. I started Elite Harmony oil and Neem capsules about a week and a half ago. I’ve seen a difference but not 100% yet. I say all that to ask…
1 – Can my kids take Mimosa Putica and/or the Neem and Oil?
2 – Can we take this with the Neem and Elite Harmony?

    1. Sorry to hear that! The issue with Mimosa is that it is very gelatinous, so the powder mixed in water is hard to swallow if the kids are unable to swallow pills. Other than that, yes you can take it with Neem and other herbs as long as you take them at seperate times. Mimosa Pudica is best taken alone (by an hour) and away from meals and other supplements.

  46. Dr Jockers

How does this perform on disseminated parasites, that have escaped the digestive system and spread into body, organs, cavities? This is the most worrying stage? If the seed powder doesn’t do that, is there another form of Mimosa Pudica you can offer which will do that?

  47. Dr. Jockers,
I recently read an article elsewhere that Mimosa Pudica should not be used by folks 65 years old and older. The article was lacking in explaining the rationale for this statement. Can you clarify if there is any contraindication for 65 year olders using Mimosa Pudica?

  48. Have had severe fatigue and dizziness for about three months now. But all the while I never had any physical gut issues, although my work has Chrons markers.

My doctor suggested that I may have some parasites in my gut and that should take mimosa puduca

Have been taking it 3x on empty stomach first thing in am followed by a binder 1 hr later and 3x evening, not followed by a binder (carboxy). Have been in it for a little over 2 weeks.

On top of that a bunch of other supplements and vitamins to support my gut

Felt pretty good for a week..my dizziness has gone away! but I’m having all kinds of crazy symptoms. I get the chills really badly, my gut is a mess and fatigue is thru us h the roof. Also feeling bloated/constipated. Having a lot of trouble sleeping due to abdominal stress.

I’ve read that and treating a parasite they can often leech metals and bacteria in your gut causing further issues.

Hoped that the binders would help but considering going off mimosa pudica for a while to see if that’s the culprit.

Should I be taking more binders to support the detox process or do you think binders should I potentially get off the mimosa puduca? As of yesterday I have stopped, taking all other supplements, fearing that they could be agitating my gut.

Can’t tell if this is a “it’s always darkest before dawn” kind of thing or if I’m doing harm

  49. Hello Dr Jockers,

is Mimosa Pudica Seed/Para 1 out of production or is it just temporarily unavailable?

    Kind regards, Kirstin

  50. Dr. Jockers,
Since this product only treats parasites in the intestines, should another formulation that treats them elsewhere be taken at the same time? Or should it be done one at a time?
